Consider:
Det var en mere end almindeligt vred journalist.
Shouldn't it be the following?
Det var en mere end almindelig vred journalist.
(This was in a newpaper today. It is only the first part of a longer sentence, but I don't think it would change the answer.)

It should be almindelig because it's saying something about the journalist(en).
The thing that probably fooled the writer is, that you would write:
Det var almindeligt at...
Where almindelig is saying something about det which is why the t should br added. This makes the wrong version "sound" right.
