Is count singular in this context?

Is there anything wrong with the following title?

Follow count for proposals are inconsistent with the list of followers

For example, if count is singular then it should be:

Follow count for proposals is inconsistent with the list of followers

Or should it be the following (each proposal has a count)?

Follow counts for proposals are inconsistent with the list of followers

What about using the definitive article? -

The follow coun...

Without knowing what a "follow count" is (a follower count?), I generally agree with your last two proposals: "The follow count is...", "The follow counts are..."

An e-mail subject line, telegram, or other abbreviated context might leave off the article, but these examples seem to want them, unless you're referring to the universe of follow counts.

I agree. “Follow count…are” is in error. Also agree that it would be better to say “follower count.” AND agree that if you have the space, say “the follower count.” Choose singular or plural based on what you actually mean, that is singular or plural. =)

Remero: I am not sure what the singular and plural versions actually mean. Does the singular one mean there is only one count overall? Each proposal has one and only one count. Would the plural version be the right one, then (as there is more than one count when there are many proposals)?

: Actually the “lists” should be plural also (overlooked in the discussion) and that what you are after is: “The follower counts for proposals are inconsistent with the lists of followers.” I have to admit I don’t really understand the context, but you could also say something like: “The follower count for one or more proposals is inconsistent with its corresponding list of followers.” …but why not… “The follower counts do not match the actual number of followers in the lists of followers for [one or more / multiple] proposals.” (?) =)
