Is every X singular?

Consider:

You can see that almost every big religion tell that a time of great tribulation will come.

Shouldn't it be the following?

You can see that almost every big religion tells that a time of great tribulation will come.

Context and new context. (Related: Is none of singular? and Is everything singular?)

Yes. Every [one] is always singular, even when the [one] is many.

Perhaps the original author mentally read it with “all” for “every”, as in “You can see that almost all big religions tell…”

I agree with your rewriting; the first would work with "all" instead of "every", as in:

You can see that almost all big religions tell...

or Cancel
