Consider the following question in French:

Est-ce qu'ils vous ont recommandé d'y aller?

I would like to ask the same thing without est-ce (not sure about the proper term, but by reversing the order).

Anyway, I am wondering what is the correct form? My take is:

Vous ont-ils recommandé d'y aller?

But it sounds strange.
